Hudson Concrete Polishing
Most people think of polished concrete as a hard surface with a shine. However, there are many options and unlimited design possibilities that can be customized depending on what you are looking for.
Most of the projects we work on in New York City are old cement surfaces. Many are uneven, damaged and cracked. Door jams and floor vents present their own set of height issues which need to be taken into consideration. Construction projects over the years have created issues with holes in the concrete surface from nails, screws, electric wires and plumbing. We carefully analyze all the solutions before presenting the options.
Problems can be repaired, but the reality is that a polished surface does not cover up blemishes. Blemishes in the floor can add to the design depending on what you are trying to achieve.
It’s important to know that when we polish old concrete, we don’t know the extent of the aggregate that was used when the floor was created years ago. Polishing starts with a grinding process that exposes the old stone in the cement. There is no way to know exactly what the outcome may be. No two floors are the same.
Concrete Overlays and Self Leveling
When we encounter a floor with a damaged uneven surface or with height issues at doorways, we’ll use a self leveling overlay. Self levelers as we call them, can be polished, sealed and burnished. We can color them by mixing color pigments to your exact specifications.
Technological improvements with products, equipment and installation techniques have transformed our capabilities. We can provide our clients with unlimited function and design solutions. It’s common to look at a completed project and think, “we just did that!”. It’s a little like being a sculpturer working on a flat horizontal surface.
We Are Floor Designers
Interior design usually starts with the floor and works upward. Flooring should not be an after thought. When we look at a space, we spend a considerable amount of time listening to what the owner, designer and architect have in mind for the interior design. Once we have a handle on the overall scheme, we can provide options.
Function and design are always two major considerations as well as price and completion time. If we polish an existing concrete floor , people can walk on the surface around us. If we are install a self leveler, no one can walk on the floor until 100% complete. It’s important for everyone involved to understand the processes. There is nothing worse than finishing a tough project and coming in the next day to find that someone walked on the project after we left leaving permanent footsteps. When concrete dries, that’s it. Put your hand in it and the next day you will have an imprint that lasts forever.
We’re passionate about our work. It’s painful to see footprints in our work. Not to mention that the owner is not to thrilled either.
Areas We Serve
Though we will travel to do a project, our core market is New York City and neighboring areas. Just manuvering around NYC is a specialty that has taken years to master.
Look around our site and call me with any questions. We’ll gladly take a look at your project and show you our portfolio to give you an idea of design possibilities. Paul Huneck (Owner) 718-482-0850.
